Luana Marble Coffee Table by Bendixen Design, 1960s
-
Detail
Every Friday night, Giovanni Lombardis apartment became the most sought-after invitation in Milan. Architects, critics, and designers would gather around his prized coffee tablea monolithic slab of luana marble, its swirling veins of deep onyx, warm umber, and creamy alabaster resembling an aerial view of the Italian Alps.?
The base stood like a series of abstract columns, grounding the weight of the marble with an architectural presence. It reflected the aesthetic codes of the erabold yet minimal, functional yet expressive. Under the candlelight, the marble seemed almost in motion, its fluid patterns shifting with each passing glass of Barolo. Conversations meandered like the stones veining, sprawling into debates about modernism, art, and the shape of the future.
Giovanni never interrupted. He simply ran a hand across the cool, polished surface, content to let his table set the tone for the night.
