The chairs were supposed to be temporary. Amelia bought them in a moment of optimism, thinking shed host friends for drinks on the patio. But the friends never came, and the drinks stayed firmly indoors.

Over time, the chairs became fixtures. One collected laundry fresh from the dryer, the other served as a makeshift nightstand after Amelia gave up on real furniture shopping. They had an unspoken agreement: theyd hold her chaos, and shed never fold them back up.

One rainy Sunday, Amelia sat in one chair with a mug of tea and stared at the other. It looked oddly dignified, still holding the sweater she swore shed return.

They were more reliable than most things in her life, those chairs. Sturdy, quiet, and always there.
